Jalapeno Watermelon Margarita Shooters

These Jalapeno Watermelon Margarita shooters are refreshing with a kick of spice. They make the perfect addition to any summertime celebration!

After almost 3 years of CrossFit, PRs are hard to come by. In the beginning, every lift we did progressed quickly and with ease. Three years later though, progress (if any at all) comes incredibly slowly and at the expense of a heck of a lot of frustration.

This time last year I thought I’d have a muscle up within the month. 12 months later though, I still don’t. I still can’t find my balance in a handstand and it seems I’ve been stuck around 130 pounds on my clean for a year as well.

I sometimes joke (although there is a hint of truth of in it) that maybe I’ve just hit my peak at 33 and gotten as far as I’m going to get. But then a day comes where something clicks, a PR is set and hope is reinstated.

A couple of Tuesdays ago was one of those days. After spending 30 minutes on handstand practice (I still suck at them) we loaded up the barbells and got to work on a 1 rep max hang snatch. I’d been stuck around 90 pounds for what seemed like a year so when 90 came and went relatively uneventfully, I felt good, threw on the chips and attempted 95 pounds.

Much to my surprise, it wasn’t that bad and I got under it without issue. Knowing that was a PR, I was half excited yet half annoyed. Want to know what’s annoying about a 95 pound snatch? It’s really freakin’ close to triple digits but 5 pounds can make a world of difference on certain lifts, snatches being one of them.

I put it on the barbell anyway and went for it.

And much to my surprise, I hit it. It only took 1,000+ days, but I finally got to triple digits on a snatch. It doesn’t lessen the frustration of not yet having a muscle up or handstand but it definitely motivates me to keep trying.

Instead of wrapping up a workout with a protein smoothie per usual, I came home and decided a triple digit snatch PR deserved a bit more of a celebration than protein powder.

With Margarita BACARDI® Mixers in the freezer and half a watermelon taking up far too much space in my fridge (Ulysses has a serious watermelon obsession that can’t be stopped), I got to work on the impromptu celebratory libation.

Jalapeno Watermelon Margarita Shooters

Watermelon is a classic summer staple and a fun way to sweeten up the classic margarita but I wanted something a bit different with these shooters.

Jalapeno sounded like the perfect spicy option. Enough to bring a kick but not too much that you can’t throw these back without your eyes tearing. Spice is my go to for livening up drinks, like in this serrano cucumber margarita, I just love that surprising kick!

With the addition of fresh mint from my potted herbs outside that are bursting at the seams from all the rain we’ve had and you’ve got the perfect drink for a quick unplanned celebration or party.

BACARDI® Mixers are great for this kind of thing because you can just keep them on hand in the freezer, throw in a few fresh ingredients, liquor of your choice and be ready to go in just minutes for your celebration or party. They’re tasty, made with fresh juices and a whole lot quicker than whipping up a cocktail from scratch.

Try them with an array of different fruits. Mango, pineapple or even dragon fruit would be delicious!
